PCORnet Publishes Results of Bariatric Study
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) published summaries of a National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network (PCORnet) project, “Comparing Three Types of Weight Loss Surgery: The PCORnet Bariatric Study.”
The PCORnet Bariatric Study (PBS) was one of the first studies to use the PCORnet data, engagement, and governance infrastructure to conduct comparative effectiveness research. The study aimed to compare three types of weight loss surgery:
- Roux-en-y gastric bypass (RYGB)
- Adjustable gastric banding (AGB)
- Sleeve gastrectomy (SG)
The full study results are available at pcori.org.
The PBS team was lead by Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute and included 11 PCORnet Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs), including CAPriCORN.
